Jane Birkin was born on December 14, 1946, as Jane Mallory Birkin in London, England, an English-French actress, singer, songwriter, and model. Birkin’s mother, Judy Campbell, was an English actress, best known for her work on stage. Her father, David Birkin, was a Royal Navy lieutenant-commander and World War II spy.
At age 17, she met composer John Barry, whom she married in 1965, they had a daughter, Kate Barry, in 1967 but in 1968 the couple divorced. Birkin returned to her family in London and began to audition for film and television roles in England and Los Angeles, California. Birkin’s career began as an actress, appearing in minor roles in Michelangelo Antonioni's Blow Up (1966), and Kaleidoscope (1966). Birkin lived mainly in France since the 1970s. In 1978, Birkin modelled for Lee Cooper jeans, an English clothing company, operating worldwide. Birkin is a philanthropist which urges her to work with Amnesty International on immigrant welfare and the AIDS problem.
She also had a fruitful career as an actress in British and French cinema and she accomplished international fame and notability for her decade-long musical and romantic partnership with Serge Gainsbourg.
