  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Shaft vintage movie posters, where we offer a wide range of artwork for cinema's ultimate black action films.

Shaft is a 1971 American crime action film. It was directed by Gordon Parks and written by Ernest Tidyman and John D. F. Black. It is a version of Tidyman's novel of the same name and it's the first entry in the Shaft film series.

It is about John Shaft, a private detective who is hired by a Harlem mobster to rescue his daughter from the Italian mobsters who kidnapped her. The film is starred by Richard Roundtree as Shaft, alongside Moses Gunn, Charles Cioffi, Christopher St. John, and Lawrence Pressman. The film focuses on themes like the Black Power movement, race, masculinity, and sexuality. The film was filmed in Harlem, Greenwich Village, and Times Square within the Manhattan borough of New York City. Recorded by Isaac Hayes, the Shaft soundtrack album, was also a success, winning a Grammy Award for Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture and a second Grammy that he shared with Johnny Allen for Best Instrumental Arrangement. The theme song from Shaft won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. It is a prime example of the blaxploitation era.

The nice thing about the film is that it savors the private-eye genre and specially delights in wringing new twists out of the traditional relationship between the private eye and the boys down at homicide.

Film/Art Gallery's collection of Shaft vintage movie posters includes a variety of first release cinema artworks or Shaft posters.

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
