Original Vintage Movie Posters @ Film/Art Gallery

Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original West Side Story vintage movie posters, where we offer a wide range of artwork for the ultimate musical film.

Inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is a 1961 American musical and romantic film about two New York teens (Tony and Maria) from rival gangs, fighting for the same territory who fell in love but their love ended in a tragic and heartbreaking way. This modern musical representation is directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. The film is an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical of the same name which was a chart-topper.

It was released on October 18, 1961, through United Artists. Garnering high praise from critics and viewers, the film became the highest-grossing film of the year in the United States. The film also holds the most wins for a musical including 10 Academy Awards and Best Picture.

West Side Story is a great influence, not just because of the theatricality of its presentation, the fusion of script, song, dance, and set, but also of the relevant issues it focuses on - immigration, discrimination, ever-changing gender roles, urban living, corrupted youths, violence and senseless killings on the streets.

Film/Art Gallery's West Side Story movie poster collection includes a vintage poster of the first release of the classic, Oscar-winning musical. Also included in the collection is the one of a kind Marian Stachurski artwork for the first Polish release of the musical. West Side Story poster collection also showcases versions of the re-release poster, posters in Germany, and the U.S.A.

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
