Harry Potter is a film series based on the incredibly popular novels by J. K. Rowling and distributed by Warner Bros. The magic school film series was helmed by directors Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell and David Yates, and produced by David Heyman with writers such as Steve Kloves. After seven months of searching, production found lead actor Daniel Radcliffe in a theatre and cast him as the iconic wizard. The Harry Potter film series also stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, and begins with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) aka Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. David Barron was the executive producer on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Tim Burke served as the visual effects supervisor of the series.

Michael Goldenberg wrote the screenplay for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) and the sixth film in the series Half-Blood Prince was considered the most expensive as of 2009. The film’s production started in Leavesden Studios, which was opened to the public as a studio tour in 2012. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 was released in November 2010 culminating with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011). Both became the highest-grossing films at the time of their respective releases. The Harry Potter prequel series, beginning with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), depicts the beginnings of the Wizarding World franchise.

The Harry Potter series has gained success at the annual Saturn Awards and Art Directors Guild Awards, along with 24 nominations at the British Academy Film Awards and five nominations at the Grammy Awards. The Harry Potter film series is considered the 3rd highest-grossing film franchise of all time as of 2021.
