Back to the Future is a science fiction and comedy movie directed by Robert Zemeckis and released in 1985. A young man named Marty McFly unintentionally travels into the past and jeopardizes his own future existence. The film was followed by two sequels, Back to the Future Part II (1989), and Back to the Future Part III (1990), forming a trilogy.

Written by Bob Gale and Zemeckis, the film stars Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd, who portrays the eccentric scientist Doctor Emmett "Doc" Brown, his friend and the inventor of the time-traveling DeLorean automobile. The cast also includes Crispin Glover as his father George, Lea Thompson as Marty's mother Lorraine, and Thomas F. Wilson as Biff Tannen, Marty and George's arch-nemesis.

The movie opened on July 3rd, 1985, and grossed $210 million at the US box office, making it the highest-grossing film of 1985. The film was re-released on June 25, 1993.
