Introducing the Saul Bass Archive @ Film/Art Gallery!
Dear Friends and Movie Lovers-
TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE 98TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF SAUL BASS - ONE OF THE GREATEST, MOST INFLUENTIAL AND PROLIFIC ARTISTS OF THE PAST 100 YEARS. HE’S CERTAINLY OUR FAVORITE GRAPHIC DESIGNER, AND WE’VE ALWAYS BEEN AVID COLLECTORS OF HIS BRILLIANTLY-DESIGNED,ICONIC FILM POSTERS.
And so it is with enormous pride and a great deal of excitement that we announce our exclusive partnership with the Saul Bass Estate. The Saul Bass Archive @ Film/Art Gallery launches today with a wonderful group of silkscreen film posters: EXODUS, NINE HOURS TO RAMA, ADVISE AND CONSENT, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, THE FIXER, BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING, THE CARDINAL, GRAND PRIX, SECONDS and ANATOMY OF A MURDER. These were commissioned by Bass and printed at the Art Krebs Studio in Los Angeles, for Bass’ personal use: as gifts, donations to such institutions as The Museum of Modern Art, and for display at exhibitions throughout the world. They were printed in very small editions, and not meant for commercial distribution. This collaboration marks the first time that these silkscreens from his personal collection are being made available directly to the public.
And this is just the beginning! We’ve spent the past two years working with the Bass family, cataloging and photographing hundreds of items - many of which have never been seen by the public. The collection has been intact and in storage since Bass’ death in 1997, and includes film posters (silkscreen and serigraph), film festival posters, publications, corporate logo designs and much more. In the upcoming months and years we will continue to regularly introduce new items and content to the site, so please make sure to visit regularly for the latest updates.
