Rare style A, international style, printer's proof (CMYK style), featuring the iconic Tom Jung artwork

NOTE: This is an uncut printer's proof/test poster. Gore Graphics, the printing company who originally produced the posters, printed a limited test run using the CMYK color printing process. When Fox/George Lucas reviewed this version, they rejected it. (We don't know of any surviving examples from this first test batch.)

Gore then experimented and printed another limited test run with PMS/Pantone colors. But, the majority of printing plants at the time used the standard CMYK inks, not the branded Pantone, so large print runs of this version would not have been possible.

As a result, the company ultimately stuck with the CMYK color process until a final satisfactory version was approved and went to print in mass quantities.
