Charming postcard with an interesting story. According to his daughter Jennifer, Saul "spontaneously decided to wear this hotel laundry bag (onto which he had sketched a quick ‘portrait', with mustache, mouth and two holes for the eyes) as part of a talk he gave at the Aspen Design Conference. Then, shortly afterward, he was going to attend an AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) meeting. As was often done, a “call” would go out for each designer to contribute an image for a book or exhibit or other form that would showcase/introduce/celebrate all the members around a certain idea/theme. That particular year the theme was a self portrait. I happened to drop by dad’s office the day he was working on some ideas and we entered into a dialogue about what he was working on and at some point I said 'how about just doing something fun and casual like - that?', as I pointed to the laundry bag he had recently pinned to the wall from the conference. We laughed and agreed that it was perfect - he’d already done it! So he had it photographed for the postcard, which was the assigned form for the ‘portrait’."
