  • Le Rouge Baiser

NOT A FILM POSTER - French advertising poster. Invented by chemist Paul Baudecroux in 1927, Le Rouge Baiser was the first indelible or "kiss-proof" lipstick, and was so successful in dyeing the lips, it was pulled from the market due to its being so hard to remove. In spite of this, the lipstick soon gained widespread popularity, becoming the makeup of choice for Audrey Hepburn. Artist Rene Gruau first produced the "Beret" ad for the lipstick in 1948. He followed it up the next year with his "Femme au Bandeau," which was such a success that it became the logo of Le Rouge Baiser.
