  • Cult Of the Damned (Angel Angel Down We Go)

Rather insaneĀ AIP concoction, written and directed by Robert Thom (who had written "Wild In the Streets" for them) and featuring a wild cast: Jennifer Jones (her first film after a widely-publicized suicide attempt), folk singer Holly Near, Lou Rawls and Roddy McDowall. The drug-tinged story - about a charismatic rock star who sings tunes by Cynthia Weil & Barry Mann, insinuates himself into a rich family and seduces them, a la "Teorema" - wasn't a horror movie, but after the Sharon Tate murders, the title was changed from "Angel..." to "Cult of the Damned", and the advertising (including this poster) left little doubt as to Ā what angle AIP was using to market the film.
