  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Bullitt movie posters where we offer a wide range of artwork for cinema’s ultimate action thriller film.

Bullitt is a Steve McQueen 1968 American action thriller film directed by Peter Yates, and based on the 1963 novel Mute Witness by Robert L. Fish. Fish wrote the novel under the pseudonym Robert L. Pike. The star of the movie, a 1968 Mustang Fastback, was sold at Mecum Auctions for a record price of 3.4 million dollars ($3.7 million including auction fees) on January 10, 2020.

The action thriller movie film was a critical and box-office hit, later winning the Academy Award for Best Film Editing (Frank P. Keller) and receiving awards notice for Best Sound as well as the 1969 Edgar Award for Best Motion Picture (Robert Fish, Harry Kleiner, and Alan Trustman).

At the time of the film's release, the exciting car chase scenes featuring Steve McQueen at the wheel generated astounding excitement.

Bullitt's story follows Steve McQueen's titular character and a trail of mob hitmen through a maze of complications and double-crosses. Bullitt is popular for its car chase scene through the streets of San Francisco, which is regarded as one of the most influential in movie history, a sequence that revolutionized Hollywood's standards.

Also, the finale of the film has hero Steve McQueen firing two shots from his pistol and that is the only time he uses it in the movie. This film demonstrates that action is best played with the result of a character's emotions and not a director's ambition to blow stuff up. Hence, Frank Bullitt is a character to remember at the end of the film.

The film opened at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Thursday, October 17th, 1968. It grossed $210,000 in its first week, including a Hall record Saturday of $49,073. Produced on a $5.5 million budget, the film grossed over $42.3 million in the US, making it the third highest-grossing film of 1968.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Bullitt movie posters include a Raymond 'Ray' Elseviers artwork for first Belgian release of 1968 McQueen classic (actual size is 14.25" x 20.25"). The Bullitt poster collection also includes an Antonín Sladek design for the first Czech release.

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
