Original Yves Montand Movie Posters
Yves Montand movie posters offer one of the richest collecting areas in French cinema art — authentic original prints from a career that spanned four decades of French filmmaking and produced campaign materials ranging from pure thriller tension to operatic political drama. Montand's screen identity was built on his combination of physical magnetism, political seriousness, and the musical stardom that preceded his film career — qualities that made him equally convincing in the thriller genre and in the explicitly political films that defined his later work.
The Wages of Fear (Henri-Georges Clouzot, 1953) is the essential starting point: a thriller of almost unbearable tension, with Montand driving a truck of unstable nitroglycerine across South American roads — and original French grandes for the film are among the most sought-after items in French cinema collecting. The campaign for Z (1969) — Costa-Gavras's political thriller about Greek fascism, with Montand as the assassinated leftist leader — produced French and international materials that are among the most graphically powerful political film posters of their decade.
The Confession (1970), Costa-Gavras's follow-up, and Jean de Florette (1986) — Claude Berri's Provençal epic with Gérard Depardieu — represent the full range of his career. Manon des Sources (1986), the sequel to Jean de Florette, is available to buy in both French and international formats. Fine flat originals from his French and Italian productions are genuinely scarce and seldom available.
