Werner Herzog (born September 5th, 1942) is a German film director, screenwriter, author, actor, and opera director whose unusual films captured men and women at psychological extremes. His films often highlight ambitious protagonists with impossible dreams, individuals with special abilities in obscure areas, or people who are in a struggle with nature. Werner Herzog made his first film at the age of 19 in 1961. Since then he has created more than sixty feature films and documentaries, such as Aguirre the Wrath of God (1972), Heart of Glass (1976).
He has published more than a dozen books and directed several operas. Roger Ebert, an American film critic said that Herzog "has never created a single film that is compromised, shameful, made for pragmatic reasons, or uninteresting.
Herzog was awarded at the 49th San Francisco International Film Festival, receiving the 2006 Film Society Directing Award. In 1962 and 2019 Herzog has directed seven fiction short films, twenty fiction feature films, and 31 documentary feature films, as well as eight documentary short films and episodes of two television series.
