Original The Wizard of OZ Movie Posters
The Wizard of Oz movie posters rank among the most valuable items in the entire American cinema collector market — the theatrical campaigns for the 1939 MGM production are among the rarest surviving theatrical materials from the studio era, and genuine first-issue examples command prices matched by virtually no other American film in any market. Judy Garland's Dorothy, the yellow brick road, and the Emerald City skyline gave MGM's design department imagery of permanent cultural resonance.
Find original Wizard of Oz theatrical materials from the 1939 release and period reissues. First-issue MGM examples — produced before the film's initial release in August 1939 — are exceptional institutional-grade rarities, held almost exclusively by major museum collections and long-established private collectors. The film's repeated theatrical reissues through the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s produced campaign materials in more accessible quantities.
1940s and 1950s reissue posters retain genuine age and period graphic quality at a collecting level more compatible with the open market. Even these circulate in very small numbers — fine flat examples of any generation of Wizard of Oz campaign material are genuinely scarce across all formats. Lobby card sets from the Technicolor sequences, with their extraordinary colour values, are among the most sought-after items in the MGM poster market.
