Original The Trial (Le Proces) Movie Posters
The Trial movie posters document one of Orson Welles's most visually radical productions — the 1962 co-production adapting Kafka's novel shot across Paris, Zagreb, and Rome with Anthony Perkins as the haunted Josef K. The theatrical campaigns for this deliberately disorienting production matched the film's expressionistic visual vocabulary, capturing the geometric oppressiveness and bureaucratic nightmare of Welles's interpretation of Kafka's world.
Find original Trial theatrical materials from the European release campaigns. French campaign materials — produced for the film's primary distribution territory — are the primary collector target: the French grandes and affichettes that accompanied the art-cinema circuit release reflect the film's deliberately European production context. Italian and German versions each interpreted the Kafkaesque imagery through their own national poster design traditions.
Welles's European productions of this period — including Chimes at Midnight (1965) and F for Fake (1973) — generated theatrical materials in limited quantities that rarely circulate in the collector market. Fine original examples of The Trial campaign materials are now genuinely scarce, the combination of limited distribution and specialist subject matter keeping surviving inventory very small across all international formats. Welles completists regard these materials as truly essential components of any serious and comprehensive collection covering his entire and varied European production period work.
