The Holy Mountain (Spanish: La monta√Īa Sagrada) is a Mexican surreal-fantasy film released in 1973. It is directed, written, produced, co-scored, co-edited by and stars¬†Alejandro Jodorowsky, who also participated as a group designer and costumier on the film. The film was produced by the Allen Klein of ABKCO Music and Records. It had been presented at various film festivals in 1973, including Cannes, and limited screenings in New York and San Francisco.

In the film, there is a Christlike figure who meets a mystical guide that, in turn, introduces him to seven wealthy and influential people; each represents a planet within the solar system. These seven, alongside the protagonist, the guide, and the guide's assistant, divest themselves of their worldly possessions and form a gaggle of nine who will seek The Holy Mountain, to displace the gods who live there and become immortal.

Alejandro Jodorowsky's follow-up to El Topo managed to out-do his debut on almost every front. The Holy Mountain contains fantastical¬†imagery in every frame ‚Äď from costumed frogs and lizards re-enacting the conquest of Mexico to processions of flayed lambs. Said imagery marks The Holy Mountain as an otherworldly vision of pure psychedelic intensity. The film represents the best of Jodorowsky's filmmaking achievements and it is a movie that will leave people variously bewildered, amazed, angered, fascinated, and stunned.¬†
