    American epic space opera film Star Wars: Episdoe IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019) is directed and co-written by J. J. Abrams produced by Lucasfilm and Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film is the final episode of the nine-part Skywalker saga and the third installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy following The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi in 2017. The film starred Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard Grant, Lupita Nyong'o, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo and Billy Dee Williams.

    The Rise of Skywalker follows Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron as they lead the Resistance against Kylo Ren and the First Order aided by the revived Emperor Palpatine. With the help of Lando Calrissian, Rey and her friends find a clue that leads them to retrieve the Wayfinder. Rey faces off against Palpatine, killing Palpatine before dying herself. Kylo/Ben uses the Force to revive her, and the two share a kiss before he dies, while the Resistance defeats Palpatine's armada.

    John Williams composed the score for the last time, and the film features visual effects by Roger Guyett. The Rise of Skywalker grossed a worldwide total of $1.074 billion and was the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2019 with three Academy Award nominations as well as Best Special Visual Effects, Best Original Music and Best Sound at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards.
