  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Penelope Spheeris vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

Born on December 2, 1945, Penelope Spheeris an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. Spheeris was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her father was a side-show strong man, also the owner of Magic Empire Shows carnival. Her mother was raised in Kansas and worked as a ticket taker for the carnival. Spheeris mother was 19 years old and his father was 40 when they began a relationship. She is the sister of singer Jimmie Spheeris and a first cousin of musician Chris Spheeris and director Costa Gavras, which she says has made her consider that a genetic component exists to her vocation.

Spheeris spent her childhood traveling with her father's carnival for seven years, around the American South and Midwest. Her father was killed in Troy, Alabama. Spheeris stated in an interview in 2015 that her father went to help an African-American man who was hit on the back of the head by a white man by means of a cane over an argument about cutting in front of him in line. After leaving, the white man returned and stabbed Spheeris' father. According to Spheeris, her father's killer did not serve jail time. The man's legal defense rested entirely on the claim that he was justified in killing Spheeris senior as "he was defending a black."

She has directed both feature films and documentary. Some of her best-known works is the trilogy titled The Decline of Western Civilization, the movie shows a piece of Los Angeles underground culture, and her highest-grossing film is Wayne's World, about two rock music fans Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar who host a public-access television show in their parents basement
