  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Bill Sherwood vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

American film director, musician, and screenwriter William Charles Patrick Sherwood, known as Bill Sherwood (June 14, 1952 – February 10, 1990), was born in Washington, D.C. and graduated from the Interlochen Center for the Arts, a non-profit corporation in northwest Michigan. Sherwood focused his field by majoring in composition, becoming a student of American modernist composer Elliott Cook Carter Jr. and one of the most respected composers of the 20th century at The Juilliard School while earning a degree at Hunter College, and he made short films.

His creativity and passion was an intense success when he directed, edited, and wrote the bittersweet romantic comedy Parting Glances, a 1986 American drama film made for $310,000 which spans a 24-hour period in the upwardly mobile New York gay community. The film is considered by film critics as an important film in history with a realistic look at urban gay life in the Ronald Reagan era and the spike of the AIDS crisis. It was also recognized as one of the first American films to address the AIDS pandemic by Sherwood himself. The film stars Richard Ganoung as Michael, John Bolger as Robert, Steve Buscemi as Nick, Adam Nathan as Peter, and Kathy Kinney as Joan. He wrote more screenplays and completed also three short films in six years before Parting Glances.

Sherwood had a promising career ahead, but unfortunately he died of complications due to AIDS in February 1990 at the age of 37.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Sherwood, Bill posters includes 1 Sheet (27x41) of Parting Glances, featuring Steve Buscemi in one of the first films to deal with the AIDS crisis, directed by Bill Sherwood; the poster artwork is by Mecca Culbert.

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
