    American film director, producer and writer Susan Seidelman was born on December 11, 1952 and first came to notice with Smithereens (1982). Her next feature Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) was starred both Madonna and Rosanna Arquette. She later worked on She-Devil (1989) which starred Meryl Streep and Roseanne Barr, and was a loose adaptation of the 1983 novel The Life and Loves of a She-Devil, with the film version of Fay Weldon.

    Seidelman's subsequent movies in the 1980’s include Making Mr. Right (1987), starring Ann Magnuson and John Malkovich, and the Cookie (1989), a father-daughter mafia comedy starring Peter Falk, Dianne Wiest and Emily Lloyd written by Nora Ephron and Alice Arlen. Seidelman and Brett received an Academy Award nomination for a short film for The Dutch Master. The film was part of the Erotic Tales series produced by Regina Ziegler. The female filmmaker also made the feature film Gaudi Afternoon (2001), which was set in Barcelona starring Judy Davis, Marcia Gay Harden, Juliette Lewis and Lili Taylor. The screenplay was wrtten by James Myhre which and based on the book Gaudi Afternoon: A Cassandra Reilly Mystery by Barbara Wilson.

    Susan Seidelman's film Boynton Beach Club (2005) was based on an original idea by her mother, Florence Seidelman, which was followed by Musical Chairs (2011) which opened in limited release. A latter film, The Hot Flashes (2013) starred Brooke Shields, Daryl Hannah, Wanda Sykes and Virginia Madsen. Outside of the industry, Seidelman lived with her partner actor Jonathan Brett since 1986 with their son Oscar Brett which also became a producer and a video editor.
