English film director and producer Anthony David Scott (June 21, 1944 – August 19, 2012) was known for his successful action and thriller film Top Gun (1986) with producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, and the film made Tom Cruise a star. Scott also worked on the Eddie Murphy and Brigitte Nielsen Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), Days of Thunder and Revenge both from 1990 and starred Kevin Costner along with Madeleine Stowe and Anthony Quinn (1990), and The Last Boy Scout (1991) which starred Bruce Willis and Damon Wayan.

Later, Tony Scott did The Hunger in 1982 which starred David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve and Willem Dafoe. Scott also directed True Romance (1993) from Quentin Tarantino’s script with an all-star cast. His next film, Crimson Tide (1995) teamed producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, and starred Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington. The action director later helmed The Fan, starring Robert De Niro, Wesley Snipes and Benicio del Toro. His 1998 film Enemy of the State, which starred Will Smith and Gene Hackman, was his highest-grossing film of the decade. Scott went on to direct the thrillers Man on Fire released in 2004, Domino (2005), starring Keira Knightley, Déjà Vu, The Taking of Pelham 123 and The Good Wife. In 2010, the Scott brothers produced the television series The A-Team and his latest collaboration Denzel Washington, Unstoppable.

Tony Scott married three times, until his untimely death in 2012 by jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles. His brother Ridley Scott described his brother's death as inexplicable and contradicted the coroner's official verdict about Tony’s battle with cancer.
