    Iranian-born Swiss film director and producer Barbet Schroeder was born on August 26, 1941. He started in French cinema in the 1960s with Jean-Luc Godard and Jacques Rivette. His other films include thriller Single White Female (1992), which is based on John Lutz's novel SWF Seeks Same starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kiss of Death (1995), starring David Caruso, Samuel L. Jackson and Nicolas Cage, and he produced Murder by Numbers in 2002) starring Sandra Bullock, Ben Chaplin and Ryan Gosling.

    Barbet Schroeder was nominated for the Palme d'Or for his movie Barfly (1987) starring Mickey Rourke. Reversal of Fortune (1990), adapted from the 1985 book Reversal of Fortune: Inside the von Bülow Case, was written by law professor Alan Dershowitz and earned the 1990 Academy Award for Best Actor Jeremy Irons. Schroeder adapted Fernando Vallejo's controversial novel La virgen de los sicarios (2000) featuring interviews with a Ugandan dictator and advocate lawyer Jacques Vergès along with his clients.

    Swiss film director Barbet Schroeder played roles such as that of a ghost in Céline and Julie Go Boating, a Porsche driver in Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), the President of France in Mars Attacks! (1996) directed by Tim Burton, a salesman in Paris, je t'aime (2006), and a mechanic in The Darjeeling Limited (2007), which was directed by Wes Anderson with co-producers Scott Rudin, Roman Coppola and Lydia Dean Pilcher. The film stars Owen Wilson. Schroeder also directed the 12th episode of the television series Mad Men which depicts events of Kennedy assassination.

    Barbet Schroeder resides in France and was married to his long time fiancée, actress Bulle Ogier, in Las Vegas.
