This vintage movie poster is for Bass on Titles.
In the short film, Saul Bass combines his love of cinema, film and movies with his love of design. He presents a selection of film and movie title sequences which he made famous, and talks about the evolution of the title sequence, its thematic relevance and how they open and close great movies, and have inspired an entire generation of film makers.
Some of the main title sequences covered in Saul Bass' commentary include West Side Story, Big Country and In Harm's Way.
Herb Yager interviewed Saul Bass for the documentary short.
The concept for the poster - strips of film lined up next to each other - is brilliantly realized, with a mix of colors and slightly variated images that work together to create a beautiful design which borders on abstraction.
