Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Cirio H. Santiago vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.
Filipino director, producer, writer and cinematographer Cirio H. Santiago (January 18, 1936 - September 26, 2008) was the prolific son of Manila Premiere Productions founder Dr. Ciriaco Santiago in 1946. He used the screen name Leonard Hermes and was one of the pioneers of the Blaxploitation genre. He was the first to cast black actresses as strong action heroes in the film Savage! (1973), from Roger Corman's New World Pictures, and TNT Jackson (1974), whose script was originally written by Dick Miller and became an instant cult classic.
Santiago was known as the master of Vietnam-war genre movies, such as Firehawk (1993). He had more than 20 movies with American film director and producer Roger William Corman, plus the filmmakers Jonathan Demme, Joe Dante, and Carl Franklin got their first directing jobs with Santiago.
In 1995, President Fidel V. Ramos appointed him as the president of the Philippines Film Development Funds which uplift the quality of Filipino filmmaking and production of foreign movies in the Philippines. It remains as one of the biggest studios and went public in 1997. A trivia was released that American film director Quentin Tarantino was his big fan and that some of the characters in American martial arts film Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), which stars Uma Thurman as the Bride, was seen in Santiago’s works.
Santiago died in 2008 from lung cancer, leaving his wife Annabelle and children, Christopher, Cathy, Claudine, and Cirio Jr. Unfortunately, his third son Cyril died a few months earlier.
