    American film TV director and screenwriter Sidney Salkow (June 16, 1911 – October 18, 2000) was a prolific writer and director for Sitting Bull (1954), with co-director René Cardona, filmed in Mexico. His epic films are Twice-Told Tales (1963), and The Last Man on Earth (1964), about a black-and-white post-apocalyptic science fiction horror film, based on the 1954 novel I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. The film was produced by Robert L. Lippert, directed by Ubaldo Ragona and stars Vincent Price and Franca Bettoia.

    He was commissioned into the U.S. Marine Corps and directed the TV series Lassie, featuring the adventures of a Collie dog named Lassie and her companions. The show was the creation of producer Robert Maxwell and animal trainer Rudd Weatherwax. The Cisco Kid, a half-hour American Western television series, starring Duncan Renaldo, about desperados charged for unspecified crimes but were looked up by the poor as Robin Hood figures. Salkow also directed a few episodes of the television series The Addams Family, created by American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938.

    Salkow retired from directing at the age of 59 and became a professor emeritus for the film side of the Radio, Television, and Film Department. He had two spouses and died from a natural cause on October 2000 in Valley Village, California at the age of 89.
