    Eldar Ryazanov was a Soviet and Russian poet, actor, film director, screenwriter, and pedagogue, whose popular comedies made fun of the daily life of the Soviet Union and Russia. He was entitled for a People's Artist of the USSR in 1984 and earned the USSR State Prize in 1977. He also won Best Director at the Nika Award for his film Promised Heaven in 1991, which he co-wrote with Henrietta Altman, featuring Liya Akhedzhakova, Valentin Gaft, Olga Volkova, Leonid Bronevoy, and Oleg Basilashvili.

    Ryazanov has many renowed films: Carnival Night in 1955, screenplay by Boris Laskin and Vladimir Polyakov, featuring Igor Ilyinsky, Lyudmila Gurchenko, and Yuri Belov; Hussar Ballad in 1962, which he co-wrote with Aleksandr Gladkov, starring Larisa Golubkina, Yury Yakovlev, Igor Ilyinsky, and Tatyana Shmyga; Beware of the Car in 1966, which he co-wrote with Emil Braginsky, starring Innokenty Smoktunovsky, Oleg Yefremov, and Andrei Mironov; The Irony of Fate in 1975, which he co-wrote with Emil Braginsky, starring Andrey Myagkov, Barbara Brylska, and Yury Yakovlev; Office Romance in 1977, written by Emil Braginsky, featuring Andrey Myagkov, Alisa Freindlich, and Oleg Basilashvili; The Garage in 1980, screenplay by him and Emil Braginsky, featuring Liya Akhedzhakova, Iya Savvina, and Svetlana Nemolyaeva; A Cruel Romance in 1984, which he wrote, starring Larisa Guzeeva, Nikita Mikhalkov, and Andrey Myagkov.

    Ryazanov received several awards from People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1974. He also won the First Prize among the comedies at the All-Union Film Festival in 1958 and Special Award at the All-Union Film Festival in 1983. He also won Best Director in 1991, Best Fiction Film in 1991, and Honour and Dignity in 2006 at Nika Awards.
