    Alan Rudolph is an American screenwriter and film director. He was taught by director Robert Altman.

    He has written most of his films. He became famous on his film Choose Me in 1984, featuring Keith Carradine, Lesley Ann Warren, and Geneviève Bujold. His film Trouble in Mind was also entered into the 36th Berlin International Film Festival, starring Kris Kristofferson and Keith Carradine. He also directed a love story set in Paris, The Moderns in 1988, starring Keith Carradine, Linda Fiorentino, and Geneviève Bujold. The film was also nominated for 3 Independent Spirit Awards, such as Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Supporting Male for John Lone.

    He also directed Breakfast of Champion which entered the 49th Berlin International Film Festival and was lambasted by critics. It was a box office hit gaining $178,278 against a budget of $12 million.

    Rudolph co-wrote and directed many other films: Premonition in 1972; Nightmare Circus in 1974; Welcome to L.A. in 1976; Remember My Name in 1978; Roadie in 1980; Endangered Species in 1982; Return Engagement in 1983; Songwriter in 1984; Choose Me in 1984; Trouble in Mind, a neo-noir film in 1985; Made in Heaven, a fantasy-comedy movie in 1987; The Moderns which he also co-wrote in 1988; Love at Large, an American romance and mystery movie in 1990; Mortal Thoughts in 1991; Equinox in 1992; Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, a biographical drama film in 1994; Afterglow, a comedy-drama film in 1997; Trixie, a mystery-crime movie in 2000; Investigating Sex, a comedy-drama film in 2001; The Secret Lives of Dentists, a drama film in 2002; and Ray Meets Helen, romantic drama film in 2017.
