    Nicolas Roeg was an English filmmaker and cinematographer. He is best known for directing Performance in 1970, Walkabout in 1971, Don't Look Now in 1973, The Man Who Fell to Earth in 1976, Bad Timing in 1980, and The Witches in 1990.

    He was regarded as the most influential filmmaker by directors such as Danny Boyle, Christopher Nolan, and Steven Soderbergh. His importance in the British Film industry was acknowledged by the British Film Institute by naming his films Don't Look Now and Performance the 8th and the 48th greatest British films of all times in its Top 100 British films.

    Roeg earned British Film Institute Fellowship in 1994. He was also made as Commander of the Order of the British Empire at the 1996 New Year Honours.

    He directed many films, some nominated for awards: Judith in 1966; Walkabout in 1971, nominated for Palme d'Or; Glastonbury Fayre in 1972; Don't Look Now in 1973 and was nominated at BAFTA Award for Best Direction; The Man Who Fell to Earth in 1976, nominated for Golden Berlin Bear and Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation; Bad Timing in 1980; Eureka in 1983; Insignificance in 1983, nominated for Palme d'Or and won Cannes Technical Grand Prize; Castaway in 1986; Aria in 1987, nominated for Palme d'Or; Track 29 in 1988, nominated for Deauville Critics Award; The Witches in 1990, nominated at Fantasporto International Fantasy Film Award and Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation; Cold Heaven in 1991; Two Deaths in 1995, nominated for Gold Chicago Hugo; Puffball in 2007.
