  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Robert McGinnis vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

Robert McGinnis is an American artist and illustrator, born February 3rd, 1926. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was raised in Wyoming. He is known for his illustrations of more than 1,200 paperback book covers and over 40 movie posters, including Breakfast at Tiffany's which was his first film poster assignment, Barbarella, and several James Bond and Matt Helm films.

He became an apprentice at Walt Disney Studios, and studied fine art at Ohio State University. In 1958, after wartime service in the Merchant Marine, Robert McGinnis entered advertising and a chance meeting with Mitchell Hooks led him to be introduced to Dell Publishing. This lauched McGinnis into the profession, drawing a variety of paperback covers for books written by such authors as Donald Westlake, Edward S. Aarons, Erle Stanley Gardner, the Michael Shayne, Richard S. Prather, and Carter Brown series.

Robert McGinnis later did artwork for Ladies' Home Journal, Women's Home Companion, Good Housekeeping, TIME, Argosy, Guideposts, and The Saturday Evening Post. In 1965, he was the main title designer for The Hallelujah Trail and in 1985 McGinnis was awarded the title of "Romantic Artist of the Year" for his many romance novel paperback covers by Romantic Times magazine.

The famed artist's full attention to detail was demonstrated when he was assigned to do the artwork for Arabesque and he requested Sophia Loren's tiger stripe dress be sent for him, in order for a model to wear the dress so that he could get the right appearance. Since 2004, McGinnis has created cover illustrations for the Hard Case Crime paperback series.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Robert McGinnis movie posters includes Thunderball starring Frank McCarthy. Our Robert McGinnis poster collection also includes an Italian comedy Run For Your Wife in Half Sheet (22x28).

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
