  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Michael Ritchie vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic contributions.

Michael Ritchie was an American writer, producer, and film director. He directed films with comical or satirical leanings, like The Candidate, winning Best Writing Oscar and nominated for Best Sound in 1972, and Smile in 1975.

His directorial debut film was Downhill Racer. The film nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. It was also nominated for Best DVD Extras at the Satellite Awards in 2009 and Best Drama Written Directly for the Screen at the Writers Guild of America Awards in 1970. The Bad News Bears was nominated for BAFTA Awards for Best Performance and the screenplay, by Bill Lancaster, won at the Writer Guild of America Award. The same film was also nominated 3 times at the American Film Institute. Lastly, Fletch is his neo-noir comedy thriller film starring Chevy Chase in 1985.

Ritchie also wrote a nonfiction book about the 1920's through the 1940s about the experimental period of the television industry, Please Stand By: A Prehistory of Television.

While he was studying at Harvard, he directed the original production of the Arthur Kopit play, Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad in Massachusetts. This led Robert Saudek to give him a job.

He has directed several television series, such as Omnibus in 1955, Dr. Kildare and Profiles in Courage both in 1965, The Big Valley, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, and Felony Squad, all in 1966, Run for Your Life from 1966-1967, Bob Hope Presents the Chryster Theatre in 1967, The Outsider from 1967-1968, The Survivors in 1969, and Beggars and Choosers in 1999.
