  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Harald Reinl vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

Austrian film director Harald Reinl (July 8, 1908 – October 9, 1986) was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, known for the films based on Edgar Wallace and Karl May books. He started working in the mountain films of Arnold Fanck and later worked as a screenwriter on the film Tiefland starring Leni Riefenstahl. He played a stunt skier for Arnold Fanck in 1930 and then doubled for Leni Riefenstahl in White Ecstasy (1931). As a junior ski champion, he managed a French ski school in 1930s and took up full-time directing just prior to World War II.

His first feature movie as a director was the film Mountain Crystal (1949). He made entries in popular German film series, such as Jerry Cotton, Dr. Mabuse, and Kommissar X plus Heimatfilms. His popularity reached its highest peak in the 1950s and '60s, especially with his series of Karl May westerns and Edgar Wallace potboilers with cleverly anticipating genre trends. Face of the Frog (1959) is another of his noteable film about a criminal gang led by a mysterious man in frog-like mask, written by Edgar Wallace (novel) and Egon Eis (script). Chariots of the Gods (1970) and Night on Mont-Blanc (1951) were other sucessful films, the former nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Feature).

His son was Andreas Reinl. He was married to Karin Dor, Corinna Frank, and former alcoholic actress Daniela Delis, who stabbed him to death in his home on October 9, 1986 in Tenerife, Spain.
