  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Raymond Savignac vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic contribution.

Raymond Savignac was a French graphic artist who was distinguished for this commercial posters by humorous simplicity. He started his career under the direction of Cassandre, artistic director of Alliance Graphique. He had success with his Yoplait yogurt poster and La Guerre de boutons was another well-known poster. He later worked on cartoon commercials for cinema at Robert Lortac's animation studio.

During the outbreak of the war in 1939, he enrolled into the army as a secretary postman. He was discharged in 1940 and was unemployed again. In 1942, Savignac's work was seen by advertising agent Robert Guerin, that led to his success.

Savignac’s posters are mainly visual fun and/or create attention in some ways, either by laughter or oddity. He became an independent artist and was hired to help sell products from shoe-polishes and pain killers, to soup and soft drinks. His arts were simple.

In 1970's, he survived the rise of photographic poster of that time as it became more economical and inexpensive to produce. He was unstable towards the advertising approach and their dependency on photographs rather that what he pioneered.

Savignac's works were displayed with those of his fellow poster artist Bernard Villemont at the Gallery of Beaux Arts in Paris in 1949. Montebello Museum in Trouville is where a display of his work may be found permanently. It is also where he spent his last years. Several of his posters illustrated the Norman seaside town. These posters can be seen there as well as his murals. He has accomplished more than 600 posters.
