One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is an American drama film, released in 1975. Miloš Forman directed this movie based on the 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest authored by Ken Kesey. Jack Nicholson stars as a patient in a psych ward. The movie also features a supporting cast of William Redfield, Louise Fletcher, Will Sampson, Danny DeVito, Sydney Lassick, Brad Dourif, and Christopher Lloyd in his film debut.

Filming began in January 1975 and lasted three months. It was shot on various locations of Salem, Oregon as well as on the Oregon coast. The hospital shots were taken at the Oregon State Hospital, which was chosen by producers in solidarity with the setting of the novel.

Considered by many to be one of the greatest films ever made, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is ranked 33 on the American Film Institute's 100 Years... Best 100 Movies list. The film won all five major Academy Awards, an accomplishment not repeated until 1991 with The Silence of the Lambs. It also won numerous BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards. In 1993, the film was deemed by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
