  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Paul Morrissey vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic contributions.

Paul Morrissey was born on February 23th, 1938, in New York City. The future filmmaker studied literature at Fordham University; following a stint in the Army and jobs in insurance and as a social worker in the early 1960s, he began directing short independent films. Morrissey found success as an American film director, best known for his association with Andy Warhol. Morrissey was also the director of the first film in which a transgender actress, Holly Woodlawn, was hired to play a cisgender woman and girlfriend of the main character played by Joe Dallesandro in Trash (1970).

A self-described "right-winger" and a political conservative, Paul Morrissey has publicly protested against anti-Catholicism and immorality. The director's long-term partnership with the low-keyed, apparently apolitical Warhol was viewed by many as " a successful mismatch", although both men did share some traits. For example, both were practicing Catholics.

Paul Morrissey's bold, innovative direction in film making is often ascribed to his relationship with Warhol and The Factory, although Morrissey claimed in his historical account, Factory Days, that this is not the case. Despite Morrisey’s background as conservative, he was among the first film directors to cast transgender women from Warhol's inner circle as cisgender women in his films such as the aforementioned Trash (1970) as well as Women in Revolt (1971).

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Paul Morrissey movie posters includes a teaser for Brooklyn-set Spike Of Bensonhurst, a comedy/drama film. Our Paul Morrissey poster collection also includes a rare portrait style German A1 (23x33) for Blue Movie.

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
