  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Jeanne Moreau vintage movie posters from her critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic performances.

Jeanne Moreau was born on January 1928 in Paris, France. She was a French actress, singer, screenwriter, and director. At the age of 16, she lost interest in school and after attending a performance of Jean Anouilh’s Antigone, she later studied at the Conservatoire de Paris.

The female French filmmaker made her first theatrical appearance at the Avignon Festival. She first appeared at the Comedie-Francaise in A Month in the Country by Ivan Turgenev. In her 20s, she was already one of the leading actresses in the theatre. After 1949, Moreau started to appear in films with small parts. After appearing in several successful films, she started to work with the emerging generation of French film-makers. She starred in Elevator to the Gallows in 1958 with co-star Maurice Ronet, a French crime film directed by Louis Malle; it was about illicit lovers whose murder plot starts to untangle because of a malfunctioning elevator. The Lovers in 1959, is a French drama film with co-star, Alain Cuny and Jean-Marc Bory about a woman involved in adultery who works to restore human love. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the 1958 Venice Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Lion.

In 1960, female French filmmaker Jeanne Moreau won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for Seven Days... Seven Nights. She also won the BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress for Viva Maria! in 1965 and the César Award for Best Actress for The Old Lady Who Walked in the Sea in 1992. She was also awarded various lifetime honors, including a BAFTA Fellowship in 1996, Cannes Golden Palm in 2003 and César Award in 2008.
