  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Herschell Gordon Lewis vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, and actor Herschell Gordon Lewis (June 15, 1926 – September 26, 2016) was often called the "Godfather of Gore," who later became a studio director at WKY-TV studio. Together with Martin Schmidhofer, they bought out half of the company and renamed it Lewis and Martin Films. Lewis directed Carving Magic, sponsored by Swift & Company, in 1959, along with Martha Logan, William Kerwin, and Harvey Korman. He produced his first film venture in The Prime Time (1959) and collaborated with David F. Friedman for Living Venus (1961) and many comedies, such as Boin-n-g! (1963), The Adventures of Lucky Pierre (1961), Daughter of the Sun (1962), Goldilocks and the Three Bares (1963), the Two Thousand Maniacs! (1964), and Color Me Blood Red (1965).

Lewis stopped working with Friedman and produced Stick It in Your Ear in 1970, shown as a second feature to The Wizard of Gore. His retirement from filmmaking led him to write and published books. He also founded an advetising company, Communicomp, in Florida.

In 2002, Lewis released Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat, featuring John Waters, and was inducted into the Polly Staffle Hall of Fame in 2006. Later he released The Uh-Oh! Show film in 2009. He wrote a book titled The Godfather of Gore Speaks: Herschell Gordon Lewis Discusses His Films, co-writen by Andrew J. Rausch, with an Arrow Video released of a 17-disc box set titled The Herschell Gordon Lewis Feast in 2016.

Lewis died on September 26, 2016, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the age of 90.
