Jalil Lespert (September 18, 1976) is an actor and director, born to a French (Pied-Noir) father, Jean Lespert, and to a jurist Algerian mother. He made his film debut in the short Jeux de plage. His first major role in Jacques Maillot's film Nos vies heureuses (Human Resources) in 1999, starring himself with Jean-Claude Vallod and Chantal Barré, written and directed by French director Laurent Cantet, won Best First Feature Film and Most Promising Actor at the 26th César Awards.
Lespert appeared in Sade, a 2000 French film directed by Benoît Jacquot, based on the novel by Serge Bramly. His next film 24 Bars (2007) follows the life of a prostitute, written by Yann Apperry and starring Lubna Azabal, Benoît Magimel, and Sami Bouajila. His famous biographical drama of designer Yves Saint Laurent (2014), and his lover Pierre Bergé, written by Marie-Pierre Huster and starring Pierre Niney and Guillaume Gallienne.
He appeared in Vivre me tuem (Life Kills Me; 2002), a boxer in Virgil, a 2005 comedy drama film written and directed by Mabrouk El Mechri. He appeared in a French television series, Pigalle, la nuit, and in 2001, he won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for his role in Michael Haneke's The Piano Teacher. He directed his second feature Des vents contraires with Magimel alongside Audrey Tautou and Isabelle Carré, in 2011. Lespert is married to first African-born winner Miss France 2000 Sonia Rolland.
