  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Laurence Olivier vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic contributions.

Laurence Kerr Olivier (May 22nd, 1907 – July 11th, 1989) was an English actor and director who dominated the British stage in the mid-20th century along with his contemporaries. After attending drama school in London, he had his first West End success in Noël Coward's Private Lives in the 1920s. Olivier acted in a celebrated production of Romeo and Juliet that helped establish himself as a star in 1935.

The English filmmaker created the role of Stanhope in R. C. Sherriff's Journey's End in 1928, which became a success at its single Sunday night premiere. Laurence Olivier received four Academy Awards: a Best Actor award, one as a producer for Hamlet (1948), an honorary award for Henry V (1947), and another honorary award in 1979 recognizing his lifetime contribution to the art of film. In the mid-1970s Olivier was involved in television and film as well as publishing two highly-regarded volumes of memoirs, Confessions of an Actor (1984) and On Acting (1986).

In February 1960, Laurence Olivier was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with a star at 6319 Hollywood Boulevard. The National Theatre's largest auditorium is named in his honor. Personally, the star was married three times to the actresses Jill Esmond, Vivien Leigh, and finally to Joan Plowright until his death of kidney failure in 1989 at his home in West Sussex.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Laurence Olivier movie posters includes an advance poster featuring artwork by Daniel Goozee for the movie Clash of the Titans. Also included is a poster for a film directed by Tony Richardson; poster artwork is by Marian Stachurski.
