Kristoffer Kristofferson (born June 22, 1936) is an American actor and singer-songwriter who was commissioned to joined the U.S. Army but decided to pursue songwriting with manager Larry Parnes under the name Kris Carson. He has had roles in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974), and A Star Is Born (1976), with Barbra Streisand, which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.
In 1996, he was in John Sayles's Lone Star, a film nominated for an Oscar for Best Screenplay. He took a role in the film Blade (1998), with Wesley Snipes, and reprised the role in Blade II (2002) and again in Blade: Trinity (2004). In 1999, he co-starred with Mel Gibson in Payback, was later in a small role in the 2001 Tim Burton version of Planet of the Apes, co-starred in the 2011 film Dolphin Tale, in its 2014 sequel, and in Angels Sing, with Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett.
Kris worked with Nashville songwriters Shel Silverstein and artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash in 1985, forming The Highwaymen which was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004. He released a new album Feeling Mortal in early 2013 and An Evening with Kris Kristofferson in September 2014.
He had a successful bypass surgery in 1999 and suffered Lyme disease in succeeding years. Kristofferson has eight children from three marriages, including his current wife Lisa (Meyers) Kristofferson.
