Bruce Kessler is an American film and television director and a racing driver. He raced at Le Mans and became class winner at 12 hour Florida International Grand Prix of Edurance for the AMOCO Trophy on March 22, 1958. After a serious car accident he retired from racing. When he came back to California, he became a film and television director. He directed a short film on Scarab race car for his friend Lance Reventlow, The Sound of Speed.
He directed several films and television series: Angles from Hell in 1968, starring Arlene Martel and Tom Stern; The Monkees, released on NBC between September 12, 1966 and March 25, 1968. The cast included David Jones, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. The show won two Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy in 1967. Kessler also directed The Flying Nun in 1967, starring Sally Field, Madeleine Sherwood, Marge Redmond, Shelley Morrison, Alejandro Rey, Linda Dangcil, and Vito Scotti; Mission: Impossible, released from 1966 to 1973, starring Steven Hill and Peter Graves. Kessler also directed It Takes a Thief, released between 1968 and 1970. The main characters are Robert Wagner, Malachi Throne, Fred Astaire, and Ed Binns. Marus Welby, M.D. aired from 1969 to 1976, starring Robert Young and James Brolin; McCloud released from 1970 to 1977, starring Dennis Weaver; The Rockford Files aired between 1974 to 1980, starring James Garner and Noah Beery Jr; Chips broadcast between 1977 to 1983, starring Larry Wilcox, Erik Estrada, Robert Pine, and Tom Reilly; The Greatest American Hero released from 1981 to 1983, starring William Katt, Robert Culp, and Connie Sellecca; The A-Team aired from 1983 to 1987, starring George Peppard; Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer, released from 1984 to 1987, starring Stacy Keach, Lindsay Bloom, Don Stroud, and Kent Williams; Hunter, starring Fred Dyer and Stepfanie Kramer, was released 1984 to 1991; And lastly, Renegade, broadcasting between 1992 and 1997, starring Lorenzo Lamas and Branscombe Richmond.
Bruce Kessler was born on March 23, 1936 in Seattle Washington and grew up in Beverly, California. He was also a world-class skeet and trap shooter. He is now retired in Marina Del Rey, California.
