  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Leonard Gregory Kastle vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

American librettist Leonard Gregory Kastle (February 11, 1929 – May 18, 2011) was also an opera composer, writer, and director. He is best known for The Honeymoon Killers (1970) which received the Black Humour Award in Paris. He began his musical training at the Juilliard School of Music from 1938 to 1940 and attended the Mannes School of Music, in which later on he studied composition at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

He composed a thirteen-minute opera, titled The Swing, intended for two singers, with a speaking part and piano accompaniment. The presentation was commissioned and broadcast on the NBC television network in 1956. He also wrote The Pariahs, about the sinking of the American whaler Essex, a trilogy of operas about the Shakers known under the collective title The Passion of Mother Ann: A Sacred Festival Play, a children's opera called Professor Lookalike and the Children, three unproduced screenplays, Wedding at Cana, Change of Heart, and Shakespeare's Dog and a piano concerto, sonatas for piano and violin.

In an interview for the Criterion Collection in 2003, Kastle said that no producer wanted Wedding at Cana as it was just another Honeymoon Killers, making him return to teaching and composing. Kastle attended film-related events, such as the Ed Wood Film Festival in 2007, and was then rediscovered by a new generation of cult film enthusiasts where he served on the panel of judges. He died May 18, 2011, at his home in Westerlo, New York, at the age of 82.
