Lawrence Edward Kasdan (born January 14, 1949) is an American screenwriter, producer and director and the famous co-writer of the Star Wars films. Kasdan's The Bodyguard was optioned by Warner Bros. in 1977 and chose to produce it with Costner and Whitney Houston as cast.
Kasdan was hired by Steven Spielberg for Continental Divide and wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark, which he was developing with George Lucas. Kasdan has produced several films: Cross My Heart (1987); Immediate Family (1989), written by his The Big Chill co-writer Barbara Benedek; Jumpin' at the Boneyard (1991); Home Fries (1998); The TV Set (2006), written and directed by Jake Kasdan; and In the Land of Women (2007), which was written and directed by Jonathan Kasdan.
He has appearances in his own films as well as River Phoenix's lawyer in I Love You to Death (1990), directored Grand Canyon (1991), and co-wrote the screenplay Darling Companion (2012). He directed The Big Chill (1983) with Glenn Close (Best Supporting Actress) and Silverado (1985), featured his first wife, Patricia Gaul, while The Accidental Tourist (1988) featured his second wife, Geena Davis (Best Supporting Actress). Kasdan played Jack Nicholson's psychiatrist in As Good as It Gets (1997), directed by James L. Brooks. While he never directed a film with any of Goldblum's subsequent partners, Goldblum was involved with Laura Dern, who appears in Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017), while Kasdan wrote three of the Star Wars films.
