Nelly Kaplan (April 11, 1931) born in Buenos Aires, Argentina is a French writer and director known for Charles and Lucie (1979), Papa the Little Boats (1971), and The Battle of Austerlitz (1960). Her work focuses on the arts and filmmakers who represent the new Argentine film archive.
In 1954, she met Abel Gance and worked on the film La tour de Nesle. She became his assistant and collaborated in filming Austerlitz (1960) and Cyrano and d'Artagnan (Cyrano et d'Artagnan, 1964). She directed an entire series of 1960 art shorts which includes "Gustave Moreau," an analysis; "Rudolphe Bresdin," the engraver; "Dessins et merveilles," on the sketchbooks of Victor Hugo, as well as "Les années 25 ", "La Nouvelle Orangerie "; "Abel Gance hier et demain", "A la source, la femme aimée", and titles based on the secret notebooks of painter André Masson which won in various international festivals in 1961.
She became the Commander of the Arts and Letters, Cavalier of the Legion of Honor, and Academician of the Alphonse Allais Academy. Her novel Il Fut une Êtrange Comète was published by Castor Astral in 2002, and the University of Paris 8 organized a colloquium published by L'Harmattan.
Kaplan’s novel Cuisses de Grenouilles was released by Maren Sell in 2005, later followed by her book Ma Cygne, Mon Signe, published in May 2008. Her correspondence with the writer André Pieyre de Mandiargues was published by Tallandier in May 2009.
