  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Juliet of the Spirits vintage movie posters. Film/Art Gallery offers a wide range of movie posters and artwork for the cinema's ultimate fantasy comedy-drama films.

Directed by Federico Fellini, Juliet of the Spirits is a 1965 Italian-French fantasy comedy-drama film starring Giulietta Masina, Sandra Milo, Valentina Cortese, Mario Pisu. It was Fellini's first feature-length color film using dream situations to represent a psychic landscape and was shot in Fregene, Italy.

The film is about the visions and mysticism of a middle-aged woman Juliet Giulietta, who meets her high-class prostitute neighbor, Suzy, talking to another woman on the phone and calling the name “Gabriella” while sleeping. Julie must find the strength to leave her cheating husband, Giorgio but she is afraid he will leave her.

Julie begins having visions, explores her subconscious and realizes she would be better off without her unfaithful husband. Advised by a mystic to trust in the spirits, she conjures up the ghosts of past friends and cuts her matrimonial string. She is too reliant on her husband's approval to succumb to hedonism as she increasingly taps into her demons.

The film contains circus themes music and a soundtrack by Fellinis’ musical collaborator, Nino Rota, whose music partnership lasted until his death in 1979. Fellini uses organ, guitar, cocktail piano, saxophones, and voices without words to convey Juliet's feelings. Although Masina (Fellini’s wife) stated the ending is debatable, the film successfully won the 1966 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Juliet of the Spirits movie posters includes a scarce poster (printed in Italy) for Fellini's first color film. It also includes a first release East German Style B Juliet of the Spirits poster artwork by Ring Kummert.
