Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original John Hughes vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.
John Wilden Hughes, Jr., with the screen name of John Hughes and a pseudonym of Edmond Dantès, was born on February 18th, 1950, in Lansing, Michigan, USA and died in New York, New York on August 6th, 2009. John Hughes was an American film director, writer, and producer who established the modern American teen movie as a genre in the 1980s. He successfully showcased the reality of teen life while maintaining a funny and lighthearted tone.
As a teen, Hughes moved with his family to Chicago, the reason which is the windy city is the setting for most of his works. He attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, although he did not graduate because he left and returned to Chicago to work as an advertising copywriter. His film career began when he started writing screenplays for movies produced by National Lampoon magazine.
Hughes is best known for his coming-of-age teen comedy films which often fuse magic realism with honest depictions of suburban teen life. Many of his most enduring characters from these years were written for Molly Ringwald, who was his muse.
His notable works are Sixteen Candles (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985), and Home Alone (1990) and its sequels Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) and Home Alone 3 (1997).
While having a walk outside one morning in the summer of 2009 in New York, Hughes suffered a fatal heart attack. After his sudden death, his legacy was honored by many, including at the 82nd Academy Awards by actors who starred in his blockbuster hits such as Macaulay Culkin, Molly Ringwald, Matthew Broderick, and Anthony Michael Hall among others. Some other actors who became famous after playing a role in his movies include Bill Paxton, Michael Keaton, Hall, Broderick, and members of the Brat Pack group.
