    Jean Dorothy Seberg was born on November 13, 1938, in Mashalltown, Iowa and died on August 30, 1979 in Paris, France, ruled as suicide. She was an American actress who lived half her life in France. After high school, she enrolled in the University of Iowa to study drama arts but instead took up movie making. At the age of 19, she married Francois Moreuil, a French lawyer, on September 5. 1958 and got divorced in 1960.

    In 1960, after her performance in film Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard, she became an icon of French New Wave cinema as she received praises from critics. She has performed in 34 films in Hollywood and in Europe that includes Saint Joan, a historical drama film in 1957, Bonjour Tristesse, a British-American technicolor film in 1958, Lilith, neo noir drama film in 1964, Moment to Moment, American Technicolor psychological thriller film in 1965, A Fine Madness, comedy film in 1966, The Mouse That Roared, British satirical Eastman Color comedy film in 1959, Paint Your Wagon, a Western musical film in 1969, Airport, air disaster-drama film in 1970, Macho Callahan, a Mexican-American Western film in 1970, and Gang War, a crime film in 1972.

    Since 2011, the hometown of Seberg, Marshalltown, Iowa, held an annual festival called, “Jean Seberg International Film Festival.” An original film based on Seberg’s life that focuses on her battle against the FBI, played by Kristent Stewart, was released by Amazon in 2019.
