Christopher Haden-Guest, (born February 5, 1948) is an English-American screenwriter, director, actor, musician, and composer best known for his mockumentary style. Guest was born in New York City. He is the son of Peter Haden-Guest, a British United Nations diplomat who later became the 4th Baron Haden-Guest and Jean Pauline (Hindes), a vice president of casting at CBS. When his father died in 1996, Guest became the 5th Baron Haden-Guest, in the County of Essex. Guest married to well-known actress Jamie Lee Curtis in 1984 with two children.
He had his dramatic arts training at New York City's High School of Arts and Music and at Bard College. He first appeared in minor film roles as uniformed officers in the 1972 film The Hot Rock and Death Wish in 1974. Guest's biggest role is as Nigel Tufnel in This Is Spinal Tap film, in 1984. He won Primetime Emmy Award for The Lily Tomlin Special film for the Outstanding Writing category. He also won Best Director in Waiting for Guffman film awarded by Lone Star Film & Television Award. In 2013, Guest wrote and produced the HBO series Family Tree.
