Original Donnie Darko Movie Posters
Donnie Darko movie posters — Donnie Darko (2001) — Richard Kelly's science fiction psychological thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a disturbed suburban teenager who begins receiving apocalyptic messages from a figure in a rabbit suit — had a limited initial release before becoming one of the defining cult films of the early 2000s. Its original campaign materials are consequently among the rarest items in contemporary cult cinema collecting.
Purchase original Donnie Darko theatrical materials from the film's 2001 release, before its extraordinary video and cable afterlife transformed it into a cultural touchstone for an entire generation. Jake Gyllenhaal's performance, Jena Malone as his love interest, and the Frank rabbit figure that became the film's defining image are all documented in campaign materials that reflect the film's genuinely strange premise and the distributors' uncertainty about how to sell it.
The Director's Cut re-release in 2004 produced different materials with broader distribution; the original theatrical paper remains the most sought-after version. International art-house theatrical materials from the film's European release are available and represent different visual approaches to the same challenging material.
The film's original run — twenty-eight days in a handful of US theatres before it was pulled from release after September 11 made its crashing-plane opening sequence untenable — produced materials in quantities so small that surviving examples in fine condition are now genuinely rare. The subsequent cult reputation, built through DVD and cable, means collector demand has grown substantially while supply has remained extremely limited.
