Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Contempt (Le Mepris) vintage movie posters. Film/Art Gallery offers a wide range of movie posters and artwork for one of cinema's ultimate drama romance films.
Contempt (French: Le Mépris) is a 1963 drama film, based on the 1954 Italian novel II Disprezzo (A Ghost at Noon) by Alberto Moravia. It was written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard, stars Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli, Jack Palance, and Giorgia Moll.
Paul Javal (Michel Piccoli), a young French playwright who is hired to rework the script for German director Fritz Lang's screen adaptation of the Odyssey, accepts an offer an from American producer known to be vulgar, Jeremy Prokosch (Jack Palance). Paul's wife, Camille Javal (Brigitte Bardot) and crew, join him on the first day of the project at Cinecittà. Prokosch offers Camille a ride in his sportscar. Camille, doubting her husband’s honesty and suspecting that he is using her to barter with Prokosch, suddenly announces an end their relationship. She deliberately allows Paul to find her in Prokosch's embrace and in the ensuing confrontation declares that her respect for him has turned to contempt. Paul denies this accusation asking Camille to sever her connection with the film and leave Capri. Instead, Camille decides to leave for Rome with the producer. An auto crash then kills Camille and Prokosch.
The song "Theme de Camille", originally composed for Contempt, is used as the main theme in the 1995 film Casino, and a still from the film was used as the official poster for the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
