Joe Berlinger is an American producer and filmmaker whose works focus on true crime documentary series. He met Bruce Sinofsky and made the 1992 film Brother's Keeper and went on to direct the Paradise Lost Trilogy -- Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills (1996), Paradise Lost 2: Revelations (2000), and Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory (2011).

Joe Berlinger's film Crude (2009) focused Chevron Corporation’s alleged pollution issues. He made his film debut with the horror sequel Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000) and Under African Skies (2012). In 2014, the filmmaker returned to his roots and crafted a documentary about the infamous Whitey Bulger, and he later undertook a famous seminar speaker in his film Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru in 2016. Joe Berlinger went on to release Terry George's The Promise (2016) and the Intent to Destroy: Death, Denial & Depiction in 2017.

In 2018, Joe Berlinger produced Paris to Pittsburgh for Bloomberg Philanthropies and National Geographic on battling climate change. Berlinger has directed 15 documentary series for television, including Oprah's Master Class (20112012), Iconoclasts (2005–2012), The System With Joe Berlinger (2014), Gone: The Forgotten Women of Ohio (2017), Killing Richard Glossip (2017), and Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders (2017). His three television projects slated for release in 2018: Unspeakable Crime: The Burning of Jessica Chambers (NBC/Oxygen), Wrong Man (STARZ), and a special fifth episode of Killing Richard Glossip (Discovery ID).

In 2019, the famous documentary filmmaker returned to fiction feature film when he directed Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, the story of serial killer Ted Bundy and girlfriend Elizabeth Kendall. Starring Zac Efron, Lily Collins and many more, the film screened at 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
